We can’t travel right now, that’s for sure. I had the idea to ask some friends who live in other countries, to write a little about their experiences, in these isolating times. So this guest post is from Ida Broekhart, who lives in the Netherlands, near Rotterdam. I first met Ida many years ago; we were part of a community of artists (in paint, textiles and wood) writers, and musicians. Since then she moved back to the Netherlands, and through the decades Ida has continued to craft her gorgeous creations, some of which can be seen here.
Good morning
dear Morelle,
On the first of March I had an opening of my solo
exhibition in Rotterdam. We knew all about the
corona virus which was
doing its devastating work in
the south of the Netherlands. (By
the way Morelle
the southern part of the Netherlands is only one or
two hours driving away.) The part
down the rivers
and the part of the carnivals. Over there hospitals
were overcrowded. Many deaths. We saw it on the
news, but were
happily shaking hands at my
showcase venue.
This Picture is from the opening of my show with a
member of Rotterdam- Fringe Art.....
A week later we were more
aware of the threat, but
we still celebrated International Women's
Day at the
crowded ArtSpace.
But
the next week our president announced a lock
down. The Gallery and
other cultural platforms had
to close down. The corona virus had
reached
Rotterdam.
The
Gallery owner is a Brazilian woman with many
contacts abroad,
including Italian artists.
